Well this is a fresh approach toward interpreting Bellman. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the concept, let me give you a little run-through. Carl Michael Bellman was a Swedish bard whose lyrics, poems and music still have a tremendous effect upon the world. Hes been interpreted by everything from some of Swedens biggest artists to Norwegian black metal acts. He died in 1795, and now in 2006 the lads in Charons Nymfer have taken it upon themselves to give his tunes an update.
Do not expect this to be an album of pure joy, as this is melancholic, stark and distorted to hell. The distorted guitars and vocals have been draped in heavy, pounding noise, taking the works of Bellman into a whole new level of industrial rock. Add samples of moaning women, howling wolves and even a speech from Adolf Hitler (at least thats who I think it is) and youve got yourself a weird-as-hell album. But I really enjoy the heavy and dark melancholy it presents, though Im sure some will be provoked by the bold interpretation. This can be both beautiful and disturbing, melodic and distorted at the same time.
One of my favourites is without a doubt Drick Ur Ditt Glas, where the female vocals adds yet another dimension of unstable mentality to it. But let me assure you, theres not a single bad song on this album. It will without a doubt provoke and disturb some listeners, while the sinister will love its dark atmosphere.
