Intohimo - Failures, failures, failures & hope CD
Genre: Hardcore/screamo
Origin: Sweden Released: 2007 Website: Intohimo Label: Pretty Dirty Promotions Uploaded: 19.04.08 This is definitely not my standard cup of tea. Sure, I listen to some hardcore, but screamo? Well, no. And I surely hardly ever listen to bands containing a positive message, as metal and punk seem to be quite set on spreading the message of our forthcoming doom. So this is where Intohimo stands out; eventhough angst is a big part of their lyrics theres still a bright gleam of hope shining through. Well, Im gonna be honest and say that I have problems taking emo and the likes seriously, since it usually just comes out as your ordinary teen anxiety. So the most melodic parts of Intohimo are a bit tough to digest. But they surely know how to mix it up, as the standard hardcore can turn into a massive and heavy metallic breakdown, as it can switch into insanely screamed screamo, and back into clean voxed hardcore. Two lads sharing the vocal duties; which means clean vocals vs. some extreme high-pitch screaming (pretty standard recipe, I suppose), as the four other young lads bring forth the melodic tunes. Theres definitely some depth into their music, and slick melodies are mixed with angst-filled choruses and frustrated screaming, which results in energetic songs. Im not the right guy to ask for influences, but my guess would be that these lads are heavily inspired by Underoath and later Blindside. And well, I have a seriously hard time listening to Christian bands, as I have a seriously hard time dealing with their message. But Ill not dwell further into that discussion, as itd be more suited elsewhere, and not in a review. I try to keep an open mind and let all bands get a chance to convince me, (almost) no matter their views. And Intohimo definitely manage to deliver energy through their music, and I have no doubt that young emo-gals will take them to heart and listen to them all night long as they lie in bed crying about their miserable life. As for me; Im not a teenager nor into emo, but I can tell that they do their thing rather well. Tracklist: 01. May I present to you: scars and a heavy heart! 02.
