7th Nemesis starts off with some fairly brutal death metal. The first song�s got dual vocals, growls vs. screams. And I kind of like that mix. But then it changes and the growls disappear. The only vocal remaining is the screams, that�s really too bad. I can�t stand the vocals. It reminds me a lot of the vocals from Carcass. To be honest (and I will probably get shot for this) I�m not a big fan of Carcass, just for that reason, I dislike the vocals. I can�t say that I find any direct influences in the music (ie this doesn�t remind me of anything), and that goes for the first three songs. When the fourth song starts off it could just as well be something of a Type O Negative album. And suddenly, for about five seconds, I get a strong Sepultura vibe. But then it goes back to the semi brutal, semi technical, death metal. If it wasn�t for the vocals I probably wouldn�t judge this so hard. I guess it is quite good music, and executed quite well�
For complaining so much about 7th Nemesis I suppose it�s time for my Punishment (muaha. I�m so funny).
Very low growls from Punishment, and very heavy death metal. Slow and heavy are the key words here most of the time. I have to say that Punishment could use some more developing. It can be really cool sometimes, with the ultra heavy guitar riffs, but it can also become quite plain with pretty boring drumming. They also surprised me when it suddenly goes fast (�Bullet Time�) and there�s some other guy growling even lower. Sort of the gore-growls you can find in a lot of goregrind bands.
I really don�t know what to say. This is not something for me. As the vocals annoys me with 7th Nemesis I think that Punishment can do a lot better. But I�ve read some other very positive reviews of this one, so you should probably check those out instead of listening to me. I think I�m judging this too hard.
