3x death metal with a dose of grind, one German and two French acts...
First off's Cynical Bastard with their blend of sorta hardcorish grinding death metal. Not really sure where to draw influences from. But the underlying gentle hardcore feeling definitely makes me think of Misery Index. Though, this is nothing like Misery Index, Cynical Bastard is much more gory. To tell you the truth I have no fucking idea what to say. I'm totally drawing a blank here. The music doesn't give me any specific vibes... It's just plain brutal death metal.
Unformed do their gory death metal grind quite well. Lyric wise I can't say what this is like as none are included. But from titles such as Eatmealive.com, Cum eating bitches from outer space and A hacked cunt for lunch I think we all pretty much get the picture. It sounds a bit like a low-fi version of Exhumed or something like that, but not even close to as good. And that's about all I can say.
And last, but definitely the best of the three are Gastrick Burst. Damn cool gored grinding with a high dose of death metal. Growling 2x, sometimes really damn gory, and sometimes some brighter screaming. I don't know any French, but from the titles Evil mamies and Yogurt attack I find it quite amusing.
Gastrick Burst definitely rules this split by a long shot. But other than that this is not really making me jump with joy, scream with hate, headbang with groove or kill for pleasure. It's very well written and executed, but it doesn't speak to me. It has nothing to say that hasn't been said before. It comes off as fairly bland death metal.
