This is a re-release of the bands demo from 2006, and it comes in an unusual packaging that is sure to become troublesome when stored in a conventional CD rack. But so what, cause it goes well with the sombre and bleak artwork and music.
Right from the first riff the melancholy hits you, as the melody oozes of sadness and angst. Add to that the fast paced drumming and it transforms into desperation and panic. I cant help but to compare this to one of my all-time favourite acts; Vinterland. Vrzivatar carries the same cold atmosphere made up of (in lack of more synonyms) sombre and melancholic melody. But it switches a bit in sound as the opening track is over and Melancholic dead dreams begins. Here the vocals reminds me of earlier Shining meets Forgotten Tomb, as well as the music slows down a bit.
I cant help but to love the atmosphere created in Walking through the empire of eternal snow. Its an instrumental track, but with the help of sampling I can almost imagine myself standing high up on a mountain, surrounded by nothing but the snow covered forest. And the feelings conjured in the listener by Vrzivatar is really their strong point. The music is incredibly atmospheric, and the mesmerizing sound lets the riffing and melody deeply affect you. This 30 minute album comes highly recommended for fans of previously mentioned bands, as well as Striborg.
